MoniTown tries to collect as little data as possible.
This policy explains what information may be used when you visit monitown.com or use the MoniTown application.

Your budget without an account
You can use MoniTown without creating an account. In that case, your budget information is stored in your browser's local storage, on your device. It is not sent to Supabase for backup or syncing.
This storage notably contains your budgets, expenses, goals, fixed bills, cycles, and preferences. Clearing the site's data in your browser may delete this local town. An export you keep yourself lets you retain a copy.
Loading the site and the audience measurement may nonetheless transmit technical data, even without an account, as explained below.
Your account and online data
The account is optional. If you create one, Supabase processes your email address, your display name if you provide one, your account identifier, and the information needed to sign in, including your password and session. A display name may also be generated from your email address.
When you're signed in and your town's setup is complete, syncing starts automatically. It lets you find and update your data across devices. It also uses a device identifier to manage these exchanges.
Data saved online may include:
- your categories, budgets, and expenses;
- your goals and savings transactions;
- your fixed bills, due dates, and reminders;
- your budget cycles and the settings needed for the service to work.
The online backup feature also lets you, on request, save a copy of your town. If you use a shared household, that household's data is accessible to authorized members.
MoniTown does not have direct access to your bank account. Expenses are entered by the user.
Messages and contact requests
The built-in mailbox currently keeps requests on your device: category, subject, content, dates, and status. These requests are not sent to support through this feature.
If you write to contact@monitown.com, your email address and the content of your message are sent by email and used to reply to you. Avoid sending passwords or sensitive information not needed for your request.
A bubble sometimes invites you to give feedback, after a few days or a few recorded expenses — never on first launch, and never again once closed or sent. If you send it, the text, your email if you choose to leave one, and what triggered the bubble (a few days or a few expenses) are saved so they can be read. No account is needed to send it, nothing is sent until you click "Send", and the feedback is not linked to any account: deleting your account does not erase it, a message to contact@monitown.com does.
Technical data and audience measurement
Vercel hosts the site and the application. Request processing and technical logs may include the IP address and connection information needed to deliver and secure the service.
Vercel Web Analytics is built into the site and the application to measure their traffic. According to its documentation, it notably uses the page visited, the visit's origin, an approximate location, and the browser or device type.
This measurement does not use advertising cookies. Vercel describes a temporary identifier computed from the request, discarded after 24 hours, rather than a persistent identifier that could track a person across sites. MoniTown's code does not send budget amounts or content as analytics events.

Why this information is used
- Making the budget work and remembering your preferences.
- Creating, securing, and managing your account if you use one.
- Syncing data for a signed-in account and performing requested backups.
- Responding to requests sent by email.
- Measuring traffic, maintaining, and securing the service.
MoniTown currently uses no targeted advertising and does not sell its users' personal data to advertisers.
Technical services used
- Vercel: hosting of the site and application, audience measurement. Vercel's policy.
- Supabase: authentication, syncing, shared household, online backup, and feedback sent from the feedback bubble. Supabase's policy.
- OVHcloud: domain name services and receiving contact emails. Data protection at OVHcloud.
Some technical providers used by MoniTown are based or operate infrastructure outside French Polynesia. Their policies detail their own processing and the safeguards they describe.
Cookies and storage on your device
MoniTown currently does not use advertising cookies. No Google Analytics or Meta Pixel tool is built into the site's or application's current code.
The application uses browser storage for the budget, preferences, and, if you're signed in, your account session. It also keeps cached files to work offline. This storage is not advertising cookies; clearing it may sign you out or delete local information.
Retention period
Local data stays on your device until deleted within the application or the browser, subject to its own storage mechanisms. Files you export remain under your control.
Online data is kept for as long as needed for the service and the relevant account to function. MoniTown has not yet defined a single retention period covering all data, email requests, and backup copies. Retention rules will be clarified as MoniTown evolves.
Deleting an active piece of data and deleting any backup copies of it may require separate processes. To learn the status of your data or request its deletion, contact contact@monitown.com.
Account and data deletion
If you're signed in, the "Delete my account" button is available in the "My account" area, accessible notably from settings. A confirmation is required. This action does not delete your local town.
Automatic deletion may be blocked if your account still owns an online household or certain associated data. In that case, contact contact@monitown.com to process your request.
Deleting an online backup does not, by itself, delete synced data. Likewise, clearing your local town or signing out does not automatically delete data already saved online.
Your rights
You can contact contact@monitown.com to request, under applicable rules, access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of processing of, or information about your data.
Please specify your request and, if it concerns an account, the email address used. Never share your password. Identity verification may be necessary to avoid sharing or deleting another person's data.
Security
MoniTown implements reasonable technical measures to protect the data used by the service. However, no computer system can guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
This policy may change as MoniTown evolves, notably if new features or new technical services are added. The update date shown at the top of this page will identify the latest version.
